During the days surrounding the 2025 Patriots Race, White Chapel will proudly host the first-ever Michigan appearance of the War on Terror Wall of Remembrance (WOR), the ONLY traveling Memorial Wall paying tribute to those who gave the Ultimate Sacrifice dating from the 1983 Beirut, Lebanon Marine Barracks bombing, through the 2021 withdrawal of forces from Afghanistan. The WOR has provided memories and closure to countless Veterans and Gold Star Families as well as to those families and First Responders impacted by the attacks on 9/11.
The WOR is a 120-foot-long wall featuring the names of those who died in military operations and terror attacks, including those killed in the 9/11 attacks and subsequent conflicts.
Its purpose is to provide a space for remembrance and reflection, serving as a tribute to the sacrifices made by individuals during the Global War on Terror and fostering a sense of national unity and remembrance. It connects communities with the ongoing sacrifices of the military and their families and provides a focal point for remembrance and educational initiatives.
The WOR is operated and maintained by fellow Veterans and First Responders. Many of whom served in combat and have a personal connection to the Memorial Wall, with an understanding of the loss and the memories that flood back when witnessing and interacting with the Memorial.
All are welcome to visit the WOR during White Chapel's normal visitation hours (8:00 AM – 6:00 PM daily). On Patriots Race day Sunday, when White Chapel's main gate will be closed, race participants, their families and supporters will enter through the Crooks Road entrance and be guided to free parking near both the start/finish line and the WOR.
The War on Terror Wall of Remembrance honors those who gave the ultimate sacrifice from the 1983 Beirut, Lebanon Marine Barracks bombing through the 2021 withdrawal of forces from Afghanistan.
